The Evidence
May it please the court, We the People Of Planet Orange present the following evidence against Steve Kerr.  Evidence presented from past to most recent:

SEASON 2007-08
Draft 2007
Selected guards Rudy Fernandez (24th overall pick) (GOOD PICK) and DJ Strawberry (59th overall pick) and forward Alando Tucker (29th overall pick).  Both DJ & Alando had ZERO IMPACT On The Suns' success, BUT Traded the draft rights to guard Rudy Fernandez to the Portland Trail Blazers for cash. THE FIRST OF MANY of STEVE KERR's CRIMES!!!

July 7 2007
Signed forward Alando Tucker. A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY!!!

July 11 2007
Signed forward Grant Hill and re-signed forward Sean Marks.  Grant Hill was a no brainer, Sean Marks was another waste of money...

July 20 2007
Traded forward Kurt Thomas and the first-round picks of 2008 and 2010 to the Seattle Supersonics for a future conditional second-round pick and cash. We believe this move should call for the career death penalty by itself.  Without Thomas, the Suns were left undersized and undermanned vs The Spurs in the 07-08 playoffs.

July 30 2007
Named Jay Humphries assistant coach.

August 27 2007
Signed guard DJ Strawberry. Another Waste Of Money...

August 28 2007
Named Vinny Del Negro assistant general manager. Has anyone heard a peep from him?  Perhaps he should be charged as a co-conspirator.

October 1 2007
Signed guard Richie Frahm and forwards Brian Skinner, Rawle Marshall and Doug Thomas. Several more no impact practice players.

October 13 2007
Waived forwards Doug Thomas and Rawle Marshall. That was quick....

October 24 2007
Waived guard Richie Frahm.

February 6 2008
Traded forward Shawn Marion and guard Marcus Banks for center Shaquille O'Neal. Perhaps the biggest of Steve Kerrs failures.  Granted Shaq had his best year in a few years, Marion's explosiveness, defensive prowess, scoring ability and power on the boards were sorely missed.  This Move single handedly removed the Suns from contenders and dropped them to the ranks of unimportant.

February 21 2008
Signed guard Linton Johnson to a 10-day contract.

March 3 2008
Signed guard Linton Johnson to a second 10-day contract. Who?

March 4 2008
Signed guard Gordan Giricek. Who?

April 16 2008
Signed forward Linton Johnson for the remainder of the season.

SEASON 2008-09

June 9 2008
Named Terry Porter head coach.  This was the result of the mishandling of franchise Head Coach Mike D'Antoni.  Who had come up short in the 3 previous playoffs mostly as a result injuries, NBA corporate crimes, and dirty refs.  He was dressed down for being more of an offensive head coach and not focusing more on defense even though his style was filling the building and made the Suns more exciting than any other team in the league.  This resulted in an in-house dispute which forced D'Antoni to request a release from his contract which Kerr promptly obliged.  In our opinion, once you are blessed with a franchise Head Coach you keep him and let him do his thing.  You don't see management in Utah telling Jerry Sloan how to run his players do you?  So Kerr signs unproven and untalented Head Coach Terry Porter who the Suns players never clicked with and resulted in a nearly .500 winning percentage through Porters short Tenure.

June 20 2008
Named Alvin Gentry, Bill Cartwright, Dan Majerle and Igor Kokoskov assistant coaches.

Draft 2008
Selected forward Robin Lopez (15th overall pick). This Pick Was Almost as bad as trading the rights to Rudy Fernandez.
Traded the draft rights to guard Malik Hairston, a second-round pick in 2009 and cash considerations to the San Antonio Spurs for the draft rights to guard Goran Dragic.

July 10 2008
Signed forward Robin Lopez.

July 22 2008
Signed forward Matt Barnes. Thought to be a decent pick up early, he proved to be another waste of money.

August 14 2008
Signed forward Louis Amundson. Proved to be a high energy player, but not exactly a superstar.

August 25 2008
Traded guard DJ Strawberry to the Houston Rockets for guard Sean Singletary. Pretty Much A Wash.

August 27 2008
Named Todd Quinter director of player personnel and Noel Gillespie advance scout.

September 22 2008
Signed guard Goran Dragic. Has potential as a backup, but nothing to write home about yet.

September 26 2008
Signed guards Robert Hite and Trey Johnson and forward Coleman Collins. Who?

October 9 2008
Waived forward Coleman Collins.

October 13 2008
Waived guard Trey Johnson. Another quick mind change.

October 23 2008
Exercised the contract option on forward Alando Tucker through 2009-10 and waived guard Robert Hite.
Why not just waive them both?

December 10 2008
Traded guards Raja Bell and Sean Singletary and forward Boris Diaw to the Charlotte Bobcats for guard Jason Richardson, forward Jared Dudley and a 2010 second-round pick. 2 of the final four pieces of our beloved Run & Gun Suns.

December 23 2008
Signed guard Dee Brown.

January 6 2009
Waived guard Dee Brown Are you seeing a pattern here?

January 19 2009
Signed center Courtney Sims to a 10-day contract.

February 13 2009
Signed center Courtney Sims to a second 10-day contract. Why do they bother?

February 16 2009
Fired head coach Terry Porter and named Alvin Gentry interim head coachSeveral months too late.
2008 season is officially over.

March 4 2009
Signed forward Stromile Swift.  The last of Kerrs painful decisions to date.....

June 24 2009
Trades Shaquille O'Neal to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic, a second round pick, and $500,000.
So in essence Kerr Traded Shawn Marion for those guys...And some cash....Does this site really need to be around for us to realize what a waste Kerr has been to our organization?

June 25 2009
With the 14th Pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, Selects Earl Clark, Forward, University Of Louisville.  See the home
page for a very unenthusiastic breakdown of Earl Clark.

BUT IT IS SPOT ON........

I’ve always liked Steve Kerr both as a player and a person (from what I’ve read about him). However, from the outside looking in, as General Manager of the Phoenix Suns he has singlehandedly destroyed the Suns, one of the most entertaining and best teams in the NBA. I once had a boss like him who believed if its not broke, fix it. Of course he made it worse. That seems to happen most of the time when someone new takes over in an organization and wants to make a name for himself.

Basically from what I read, Steve Kerr believed that the Phoenix Suns would always do well in the NBA playoffs with the team they had but would never win the NBA Championship with its current roster and the Suns needed to change the makeup and by result, teams style to be NBA Champions, The team under then Coach Mike D’Antoni ran a fast and faster fast break offense that was dangerous and effective led by guard Steve Nash. Steve Kerr apparently didn’t acknowledge that the Phoenix Suns had a good chance of winning the 2007 NBA Championship had it not be for the NBA’s idiot one game suspensions of Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw in the Playoffs against the San Antonio Spurs for leaving the bench during an altercation involving Spurs Robert Horry for hitting Steve Nash.

So Kerr made in my opinion one of the stupidest trades in NBA history by trading Shawn Marion then 28 for Shaquille O’Neal then almost 35 and in effect changing the entire emphasis of Phoenix’s fast break offense. According to some reports, Mike D’Antoni approved of the trade but nothing on record seems to support that. In any case, again coming from reports, D’Antoni felt Kerr was meddling too much in his handling of the team’s playing style and Kerr wanted the Suns to have a a stronger defensive presence and wanted D’Antoni to be stricter with younger player like Amare Stoudemire and Leandro Barbosa. The end result was that Mike D’Antoni resigned from the team and is now the Head Coach of the New York Knicks. Phoenix hired Terry Porter then an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons to replace him and Porter installed basically a Detroit Pistons half court type offense with a stronger emphasis on defense that didn’t leave the offense in Nash’s hands as much. The bottom line is the Phoenix Suns have gone from a unique exciting and winning NBA team to a Generic NBA team with a mediocre 11-9 record. Great job Steve Kerr. If it ain’t broken, fix it, right!
